As the GCC accelerates its journey toward net-zero emissions, the built environment is emerging as a powerful catalyst for climate action. “Sustainability isn’t just about technology—it’s about transforming how we finance, operate, and optimise our buildings,” emphasizes Muataz Hamad, Associate Sales Director – Sustainability, MEA, at Johnson Controls.
At the heart of this transformation is the Energy Service Company (ESCO) model, a game-changing approach that enables building owners to implement energy-efficient upgrades—such as smart HVAC systems, automated controls, and lighting retrofits—without upfront capital investment. Instead, projects are funded through energy performance contracts, where savings generated from reduced energy use pay for the improvements over time.
