A southern school district was ready to make security improvements across its more than 20 schools. When evaluating current access control systems, district leaders were dissatisfied with their performance. Schools had a variety of access control system brands installed, and some had no systems at all. They needed uniform access across all the district’s buildings to streamline processes and improve ease of use. However, any work done needed to be performed discreetly, without disrupting busy school schedules.

Uniform access controls to effectively protect what matters most

Johnson Controls was selected to provide the expertise and solutions needed to transform the district’s access control systems. Looking at the mismatched systems across over 20 schools, they knew they needed to remove all original systems and upgrade to a standardized access control system in every building. This technology was implemented throughout all exterior doors and IT rooms in every school, maximizing security for students, staff and assets.

With standardized access control systems installed in every building across the district, ease of use is essential for those entering the schools, from staff to visitors. These upgrades not only streamline day-to-day operations but help create a safer environment for student learning across the district.

Undisruptive installation for maximized performance

Due to their experience working in K12 environments, the Johnson Controls installation team was able to implement the new systems without disrupting a single class, including the installation of over 150 readers. The team scheduled their work around each school’s schedule, arriving just as the students left the buildings for the day.

As schools reopen around the country, maximizing security for students and staff is more paramount than ever. With contact tracing becoming the norm, advanced access control systems give school districts the tools they need to understand who is entering their buildings.
